PRESENTED BY NANCY ANDERSON LaBARBIERA

When asked by a journalist recently about parting words of enlightenment, Dave responded, "Love one another!" A biography of him that was written when he was 6 years old says, "David wants to be a sheriff or policeman or a rock singer when he gets big." He chose the latter.

Dave's album Love via Music, listener-funded and self-produced, is currently on radio stations worldwide. He recently signed licensing deals with the networks MTV, VH1, E!, Oxygen, Discovery, and Viacom (parent company of entities such as Paramount Films) -- all as an unsigned, independent artist. He has been compared to artists such as David Gray, Norah Jones, Ray Lamontagne, and Mumford and Sons among others.

The Mankato Free Press had this to say about Dave, "Regardless of critical praise and image and labels people assign him, all that concerns Owens is progressing every day on this musical course he has chosen." An online review deemed him the "Chuck Norris of the music world; he doesn't want to commit to musical genres, they want to commit to him."

Dave was raised in east Tennessee near the Appalachian Mountains, surrounded by bluegrass, rock and roll, Motown, and listening to artists such as Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Johnny Cash, and Willie Nelson. He picked up the drums and then the guitar around age 11. Although Dave continued performing and writing, it wasn't until winning "American Idol: Korea" while serving in the U.S. Air Force as a satellite communications technician that he decided he could make a career of it. In the Air Force, he was the official vocalist of ceremonies, performing the American National Anthem in Iraq for the base commander's change of command.

After being involved with previous record labels, he decided to go fully independent, releasing Love via Music through his self-established Mark Ten Publishing. A minimum of 10% of profits from the music is donated to various humanitarian and environmental efforts.

An online review of Dave's new album entitled "Deserves a 6th Star" via iTunes says:

"Everybody loves finding new, great music; finding the artist...song after song that makes your foot tap to the beat; you find yourself consumed in the groove; the harmony and lyrics playing in your head throughout the day...[Love via Music] has literally been in constant rotation on my iPod and I have yet to specify one favorite song from this album...From smooth electric melodies to acoustic guitars, jazzy New Orleans style brass mixed with syncopation drum beats...and heartfelt lyrics..."Love via Music" is one of those albums that will have it's own language with your inner music soul...
